Professional Development, Training, Coaching and Consultancy in Creative and Reflective Approaches to Early Childhood Education: Supporting Children through Playful Inquiry, Creativity and their 100 Languages

Hello! I’m Debi Keyte-Hartland MA, passionate about young children’s learning and development and the ways it can be fostered and enabled. I work with educators to support young children’s creativity and critical thinking, their playful inquiry, as well as how they develop working theories to learn, understand and interact with the world and how it works. I am excited by how the arts can be developed as transdisciplinary activators of learning across the curriculum as well as being a way of making and expressing meaning. I work with educators, managers and leadership teams across the UK and within International Schools co-creating the playful, intentional and relational pedagogies that put children’s 100 languages of learning, meaning-making and communicating at the centre.

Speaking

I have spoken at numerous conferences including a TEDx talk from my home city of Birmingham, UK to places much further afield like Beijing, on a wide range of early childhood education subjects.  I have provided keynotes for local authorities, schools, learning organisations, federations and trusts to share evidenced-based research and practice to reveal what is possible when young children’s curiosity, creativity and playful approaches to learning are valued.  I provide illuminating case studies from practice that evidence the intent of educators and the impact on their children’s learning. I don’t just want to inspire, but to motivate educators to find the strategies to reflect deeply on pedagogy and curriculum, to innovate and transform practice and to make visible the impact of their teaching on children’s learning and development. I also lead a wide variety of practical and active workshops that are catalysts for pedagogical discussion and reflection. As with my other work, I am now able to offer keynotes live in person, online or in pre-recorded formats. Contact me on the link above and press the button below to see my TEDx talk.

Professional Development & Training

I have been designing bespoke training for schools, organisations, early years providers and students for over 20 years. I am keen to develop professional learning and training that is sustained over time through developing strong communities of practice. Together we will define aims and outcomes in which to explore ways of transforming practice and evidencing the impact of change by building professional knowledge and problem-solving issues. This is important if professional development is to support the evolvement, innovation and embedding of change in both thinking and pedagogical approaches.

My work is directly informed from a range of credible sources including evidenced and practice-based research as well as from my extensive experience in the national and international field of early childhood. I also, interweave within my work Nancy Kline’s (1999) components of developing a ‘thinking environment’ to enable participants time for thinking deeply, seeking solutions and transforming their own thinking and action.

All professional development and training is bespoke, co-designed with you for your context and can take the form of a blended approach including face to face, live online or pre-recorded formats.

Coaching & Consultancy

Staff, curriculum, and leadership teams I work with evaluate my coaching and consultancy as being informative, engaging and empowering. I have many years of experience of working with schools and early years settings, organisations and trusts to help improve the quality of teaching, curriculum and outcomes for children. In England, teams that I work with often receive Ofsted judgements of Good and Outstanding. Nancy Kline’s (1999) work on enabling a ‘thinking environment’ informs my practice and creates a strong set of conditions for identifying and removing limiting assumptions through ‘incisive questions’, as well as developing encouragement and support to grow professional learning and the transformation of practice.
